Online PrEP consultation in Portugal

Looking to start or restart PrEP? PrEP Online offers a medical assessment by video call, laboratory test requests and a prescription when clinically appropriate, with ongoing care throughout treatment.

Initial consultation: €60. Follow-up consultations: €35. Tests and medication are not included.

Who is the consultation for?

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a way to prevent HIV infection in people who do not have HIV. The consultation helps assess whether this option is appropriate for you.

You can ask questions before starting, seek an assessment after a break, or arrange your ongoing care. Prescribing depends on the medical assessment and your test results.

PrEP does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections. During your consultation you can discuss condoms, screening and other prevention measures appropriate for you.

Practical questions

How do I book a consultation?

You can check availability and choose a time without an account. Sign in or register at the end to complete your request. New accounts must be activated by email. Availability is checked again before booking.

Choose a listed time or make a special request with your availability. For listed times, booking is confirmed after payment. For special requests, our team contacts you to find a suitable time.

How and when do I pay?

You can pay by Multibanco reference or MB WAY. For listed times, payment is made when booking. For special requests, payment is requested once a suitable time has been found and confirmed.

What if I need to reschedule or miss my consultation?

You can request rescheduling up to 24 hours beforehand at no extra cost. After that deadline, if you do not attend, you will need to book a new consultation. There is a 15-minute grace period after the start time; after that, the appointment may be recorded as missed.

What if I do not have the tests?

Without the required tests and uploaded results, we cannot ensure treatment safety. For this reason, prescription renewal may be refused.

Can I use my health insurance?

PrEP Online has no direct agreements with insurers. Reimbursement depends on your policy. The prices shown on this website are the amounts without health insurance.

If you would like test requests to include your insurance details for reimbursement, enter your insurer and policy number in your patient account.

Is PrEP free? How much does the medication cost?

The Portuguese public health service provides PrEP free of charge to patients followed in hospital clinics. Medication prescribed in the community benefits from a special state subsidy, but the patient pays part of the cost.

The usual patient cost for subsidised medication is approximately €13/month. This amount is separate from consultation and laboratory test fees.
